WE'VE HAD A BUSY WEEK

Friday 26th April

BOWLS LANCASHIRE INTER CLUB COMPETITION.

Friday evening saw the inaugural game of this brand new competition. Our host were Bolton Flat Green Bowling Club.

Four teams represented Southport and we managed two rink wins and two losses. One of our men’s triples teams won along with one of the ladies pairs also winning.

It was week one with two more rounds to play, Heaton Hall next week then we are at home the following and final week

After week one we are only three points behind Bolton so all to play for and with two points for a win per game there’s nothing in it.

Congratulations to Dave, Paul and Kenny in the triples and Jane and Rowan in the pairs

Finally a huge vote of thanks to the Bowls Lancashire Committee and Club County Reps, especially Stephen Helmsley, for geting this exciting initiative off the ground and of course Bolton members for providing an excellent buffet.

The delicious hot tasty soup was much needed

Saturday 27th April

Club Taster Session

Thanks to all club members who came down and helped and to the few members of the public who came to give it a try.  We will try another of these sessions at the end of May.  In the meantime you can always come down on a Monday or Wednesday afternoon or a Tuesday or Thursday evening and ask to have a go.  We'll be there to help!

Sunday 28th April

Bowls Lancashire Mixed Pairs

Congratulations to Lewis Rimmer and Caitlin Moses (see picture below) on winning the first county trophy of 2024.  In an exciting final they beat reigning champions Rory Fleming and Patricia Cunningham with the last delivery of the tie-break end.

In all 12 couples took part in an enjoyable afternoon's bowls.

Well done to Lloyd Milligan for the organisation (he had to draw and re-draw the competition groups 5 times before we had even started!) and, as always, thanks to Jane for the catering with the assistance of Pat.

Coming Soon

Sun May 5th - Victoria Park Challenge.  Another fun event held in partnership with our friends from across the road in Victoria Park where we get to play both flat green and crown green in one day.  Come and give it a try.

Tue 7th May - Sefton Schools.  We will be hosting youngsters from a number of local primary schools to help us spot the next stars of our great sport

Wed 8th May - Civil Service Green Hire.

Fri 10th May - Inter-Club League - the 3rd and final stage of this brand new Bowls Lancashire tournament which sees us go up against teams from Bolton and Heaton Hall.  If you're not playing then come along and support.

WELCOME TO OUR WEBSITE

We are a friendly club and encourage new bowlers to come and give the game a try. Bowls is a sociable game, a healthy outdoor sport and above all it’s for ALL ages

So, if you are young or not so young, experienced or a beginner, and you would like to give it a try, do come down to our Club just off the Promenade in Kings Gardens, and you will be made very welcome.

Southport Bowling Club offers:-

  1. Free coaching by qualified instructors
  2. The loan of equipment, avoiding the need to incur any expense until you are sure the game is for you

Southport Bowling Club is the only Flat Green Bowling Club in the Southport and Liverpool area. Established in 1937 our two bowling greens are located at the south end of the Marine Lake in Kings Gardens just off the Promenade. There is a large clubroom with adjacent changing and locker facilities.

We have a reputation for being a very friendly sociable club and new members are made very welcome. For the new bowler we offer free taster sessions and free coaching plus the loan of suitably sized bowls. The only proviso, you must wear footwear with smooth soles and no heels.

Our playing season begins in April and runs through the summer months to the middle of September. Club roll ups are held on Monday and Wednesday afternoons. These games are a relaxed and easy way to learn, improve and play bowls.

Social Bowling may also take place at weekends and in the week when the greens are available and not in use for organised competitions.

For those players wishing to play in a more competitive arena the club enters teams, and individual players enter both National and County competitions. Various Club Leagues run on weekdays for members to enjoy a competitive game in addition to Club Competitions.  A number of social events take place throughout the year, Bowl and Dine, Quiz nights, and Bingo. Special themed events take place throughout the summer and also the winter months

We open our second Green to members of the public, with a Green Fee payable.
